valentines vocab
woohoo one more day and it'll be feb, the month of romance and love.. everyone knows that 14 feb is valentines right? on that day, probably you will be thinking if someone will pop out suddenly and give you roses or chocolates or confess his/her love for you. and maybe trying to find something to boost your bravery to spurt everything out to your "one" and later say "oops, what did i do?!". but feb is not entirely great, coz it will be our ca1!! arghh. hell hell. hate exams right? when it comes to studying, diff ppl are weak in diff subjects and i reckon that most of us are weak in english right (except for some eng pro like hazel, aaron, chester, etc)? and for eng, grammar is not really a problem but is the vocab!! uhhhh freakin irritating vocab.bet you have ever wonder how long wud it take to finish learning all those strange and funny words. a standard oxford dictionary actually contains full entries for 171,476 words in current use, and 47,156 obsolete words. (wow) so now, i'm here to add a bit of vocab - pertaining to love and romance - to (your name here)'s english dictionary. :) Hot Phrase:a BRDEZILLA is a bride-to-be who, while planning her wedding, becomes unbearably obsessive, greddy and obnoxious. the term comes from Godzilla, the monster who wrecked tokyo in japanese horror films Deep Roots:In ancient greece, the pantheon included a god of love name EROS often depicted with a bow and arrows. the romans call this god Cupid or Amor. that's where we get eng words such as erotic (arousing passion) and amorous (feeling love).Just some Words:1. rendezvous - meeting; as between loversWithout telling their parents, pierre and marie arranged an ardent rendezvous. 2. ardour - heat of passionIf two juniors fell in love, there would be ardour in the court.3. spoon - to kiss and caressUnder the moon in June, sweethearts spoon and swoon.4. rapture - state of blissAfter his first kiss, Woody walked around in rapture for days.5. coquette - young lady who flirtsA winking coquette might distract even the most ernest croquet player.(the above information is extracted from Reader's Digest February 2009, "Word Power" section by Emily Cox & Henry Rathvon)i know this is random, but i'm just trying to keep this blog alive!!! if our class blog is super dead, we'll be a lauging stock to other classes.Yunting
